Great point Wendy! I was diagnosed with osteopenia in my mid 30's; and was already showing signs of significant bone loss in my hip and spine. I finally found a calcium supplement my system could tolerate - combined that with some weight bearing exercises (walking works for me) and my numbers began to go up. Prevention is better than cure!!

Great wake up call for anyone sitting around too much. And when I say sitting around, I especially mean sitting around watching TV. I can't believe the pull TV has on people-- particularly those that are older. Best way not to watch too much when you're old is to turn it off now. Here's my take on how to do it:

First...LOVE the photo you picked for this post! Second...it's never too soon to start taking calcium supplements. You can go from "normal" bone density to swiss cheese in very little time. Just as my stepmom. The drugs you have to take to regain bone strength are aweful...and of course there's the risk of a break or fracture. Prevention is the best medicine.

Sondra, what a powerful post! "Waiting to die" will surely get attention - but how many people are on auto-pilot just doing the things they need to maintain their body and not *living* life? How many people are not engaging, exploring, and enjoying? TV is a narcotic and maybe should be regulated as one and used with respect - and for the right reasons. Sure, relax and watch a favorite show, but don't let it own you! Don't tune out the rest of your life to tune in some show.
